A bad week for the scientists

I noticed that there has been a spate of news articles coming out the last 8 days or so on "unexpected" or "surprising" science news. Scientists are either discovering massive new things which upend their theories, which they then have to throw out the window, or they are discovering how much they don't know. So this blog entry today focuses on science. If the scientists who peer through telescopes and microscopes and stethoscopes just SEE, they will see His invisible attributes!

Romans 1:20 "For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse." God IS so visible, if they only care to look. But for those who do not look,  "Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. Mt 13:13. Of those who have been given long enough to look but still refuse the obvious, Paul says in Romans 1:28  "And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper,"

I underlined the pertinent phrase in each of these recent articles, and please note how many times the scientists just this week have had to go back to the drawing board.

Fossil hailed as Man's ancestor is 'not even close relative'
It was billed as one of the most important fossil finds in history, a “missing link” that would challenge everything we knew about human evolution. Darwinius masillae, the primitive primate that was unveiled to the world with huge fanfare and a Sir David Attenborough documentary in May, seems now to have been less of a missing link than an evolutionary dead end.

[Well, imagine that. The long-sought missing link to confirm evolution ... isn't. I wrote about it in May, here, when the alleged missing link surfaced. I wrote about it from a specifically Christian perspective at that time also, here.]

32 New Planets Found Outside Our Solar System
The 32 previously unseen planets range from five times the mass of Earth up to eight times the mass of Jupiter, scientists said. In addition, the new planets were found around different types of stars, challenging existing theories for where and how planets form.

Giant ribbon discovered at the edge of the solar system: For years, researchers have known that the solar system is surrounded by a vast bubble of magnetism. Called the "heliosphere," it springs from the sun and extends far beyond the orbit of Pluto, providing a first line of defense against cosmic rays and interstellar clouds that try to enter our local space. Although the heliosphere is huge and literally fills the sky, it emits no light and no one has actually seen it. Until now. NASA's IBEX (Interstellar Boundary Explorer) spacecraft has made the first all-sky maps of the heliosphere and the results have taken researchers by surprise. The maps are bisected by a bright, winding ribbon of unknown origin. "This is a shocking new result," says IBEX principal investigator Dave McComas of the Southwest Research Institute. "We had no idea this ribbon existed--or what has created it. Our previous ideas about the outer heliosphere are going to have to be revised."

["what" created it, they ask? How about "WHO" created it! LOL]

Physicists Calculate Exact Number of Alternate Universes
For some time, physicists have theorized about the existence of alternate universes. In fact, some models of physics require multiple universes, to explain some rarely observed phenomena.

[So, basically what they are saying here is that because some things cannot be explained nor reproduced in the lab then the only alternative to explain its existence is an alternate universe. I pray that eventually some will see that the unfathomable is GOD and He exists in this, the only universe].

Sun's heliosphere has a different shape than theorists had expected

The sun's environment in interstellar space — the heliosphere — is essentially a bubble that encompasses the entire solar system and has a diameter about 100 times the distance from the Earth to the sun. This region, in which the solar wind dominates before it smashes into the surrounding galactic gas and dust, was supposed to look something like the shape of a comet: a region pushed inward on one side and streaming outward on the other. But a new NASA orbiting observatory designed to study this vast zone found something completely different. ... What does the discrepancy mean? It will take theorists some time to figure that out, since the observations were so different from anything predicted by existing theories or models. "Theories are flying," Crew says.

5,000 Years Makes Pavlopetri Oldest Underwater Town Submitted
Archaeologists surveying the world’s oldest submerged town have found ceramics dating back to the Final Neolithic. Their discovery suggests that Pavlopetri, off the southern Laconia coast of Greece, was occupied some 5,000 years ago - at least 1,200 years earlier than originally thought. The Pavlopetri Underwater Archaeology Project aims to establish exactly when the site was occupied, what it was used for and through a systematic study of the geomorphology of the area, how the town became submerged.

(I wonder what submerged this town so suddenly...? LOL)

"Life's Chemistry Set" Found in Remote Reaches of Universe
While some have been scanning our nearest neighbors for signs of life, excited by the existence of ice and methane plumes on Mars, others have been looking farther afield. Much farther afield. Twenty-five thousand light years afield, in fact, which is a bit more afield than the human brain can actually picture without popping, and in the far flung locale of HMC G31.41+0.31 one of the basic components of life has been found. Recent results indicating that there are far more planets out there than we previously suspected...

Is Unknown Force In Universe Acting On Dark Matter?
An international team of astronomers have found an unexpected link between mysterious 'dark matter' and the visible stars and gas in galaxies that could revolutionise our current understanding of gravity. One of the astronomers, Dr Hongsheng Zhao of the SUPA Centre of Gravity, University of St. Andrews, suggests that an unknown force is acting on dark matter.

And, presentinnnnnng, the biggest science moment of all: I consider this a true "Tower of Babel" moment:
Scientists claim the giant atom-smashing Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is being jinxed from the future to save the world. They say their maths proves that nature will "ripple backward through time" to stop the LHC before it can create the "God particle", like a time traveller who goes back in time to kill his grandfather. “One could even almost say that we have a model for God,” Dr Nielsen says in an unpublished essay.“He rather hates Higgs particles, and attempts to avoid them.” I feel like a lightning bolt will smite me just for passing on the comment, never mind saying it, and worse, believing it!

If any of you do apologetics in sciences, this cluster of headlines can be used to show that scentists don't know (heliosphere, 32 planets). Where they do not know, they make up theories than cannot be proved (dark matter). When some theories are disproved (missing link), they ignore the proof, and they ignore what's in front of them as a confirmation of the historic record (submerged city).

I am not saying that science is bad. Science is good. Polio has been beaten, leprosy is no longer the problem it once was. Cancer treatments exist. We have visited the moon. But, when science is based on theories that supplant and ignore God, then it becomes a problem. It always has been a problem (Tower of Babel), and it always will. Thus in these last days, God is making Himself known. "Declare what is to be, present it — let them take counsel together. Who foretold this long ago, who declared it from the distant past? Was it not I, the Lord? And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me." Isaiah 45:21

Hallelujah!

  1. Excellent post, as usual.

We sure are in interesting times, aren't we?

    Cheers.

  2. thank you Andre! We definitely do live in interesting times, I agree. Our pastor has decided to do a series on the end times, because he is staggered with looking back over all that has happened prophetically the last 9 months. I'm looking forward to hearing what he has to say.

To me, it sort of feels that time is both speeding up AND slowing down, at the same time.

  3. Elizabeth, I must've read your mind. Just wrote something on this same topic yesterday - specifically about that huge asteroid that crashed into the Yucatan that supposedly killed the dinosaurs....well, now a group of researchers think an impact in India, not the Yucatan, actually killed the dinosaurs. Those who think themselves wise are quickly becoming fools.

Now the anti-theists who worship the ground of scientists will tell you that the subject is ever evolving. Well, my God doesn't change and His word is as good yesterday as it will be tomorrow. Praise Jesus for giving us the truth!

  4. Ohhh, that sounds like a great blog entry, I'll check it out now. You know, I see more and more that the folks who are inspired by the Holy Spirit are all writing about similar things. I see these writings on similar topics as a manifestation of His work, and of obedience to Him, we being His instruments in these last days. Praise His name!
